An accident has occurred at a popular waterfall in Ghana according to authorities, 18 people were killed.
Kintampo waterfalls is situated on the Pumpum River, it is one of the highest most visited in the country, and is located in Ghana’s Brong Ahafo region, which is around 400 kilometers north of the capital, Accra.
According to Kintampo District Police commander chief Desmond Owusu Boampong while talking to press said, a huge tree have fallen amid a brutal storm trapping swimmers at the base of Kintampo waterfalls in the country’s Brong Ahafo region on Sunday afternoon.
Among the 18 people killed are fourteen students from Wenchi Methodist Senior High School in Ghana. It happened while the students were on an excursion at th popular spot at the time.
While 18 people are declared dead, 22 others are currently being treated at a local hospital for injuries.
The incident happened when three large trees fall to the ground around 4 p.m. (12 p.m. ET) during a severe rainstorm.
On twitter, the Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo has offered his sincere condolences. “My deepest condolences to the families of all those affected by this unfortunate and tragic incident.”
