A 29 year old man has died on spot after being hit by a vehicle in Mzuzu.
Mzuzu deputy Police publist Cecilia Mfune said the deceased identified as Laston Chisi from Pondaponda Village under Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba died after sustaining head injuries and multiple fractures on the left leg.
“On November 13, 2016 at around 2000 hours, the motor vehicle with registration number BLK 4955 ford ranger double cabin was speedily driven by Mr Jereman Nyirongo coming from Ekwendeni heading towards Mzuzu. Upon arrival at Lafika butchery near Dunduzu road block he hit Chisi who was crossing the road from right to left hand side”, she said.
Following the impact, Chisi sustained severe head injuries which led to his death.
Meanwhile, the 28 year old driver who hails from Kafilu Village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mtwalo in Mzimba is in police custody and will appear before court to answer charge of causing death by reckless driving.
