A 29 year-old Malawian man has died in Kasungu after taking excessive locally distilled liquor commonly known as Kachasu on an empty stomach.
Speaking to News Watch Reviews, Kasungu deputy Police Public relations officer, Harry Namwaza, has confirmed the death of the man identified as Mathias Ezala which occurred in the district of Kasungu.
“We received a report from his father Mr Ezala Phiri that the deceased left his home early in the morning of July 13, 2016 for his beer drinking spree at Mwase trading centre within the area without taking food”, said Namwaza.
Namwaza further said after realising that he had taken enough, the deceased silently left the drinking place heading home but he was found lying dead along the road to the trading centre.
“After realising that he has taken enough he left the drinking den heading home, but he was found lying dead along the road on June 14, 2016 at around 1000hrs”, said Namwaza.
The scene of the incident was visited by both the police and Kasungu medical personnel who collected the body and sent it to Kasungu district hospital for examination.
Postmortem conducted at the district hospital indicated that the man died due to hypoglycemia as a result of taking alcohol excessively on an empty stomach.
The deceased hailed from Mangani village in the area of Traditional Authority Santhe in the district.
