A 40 years old man identified by the police as Wilson Mlaka, is battling for his life at Nkhata Bay District Hospital after he was stabbed in the stomach by Alick Chipeya, 28, for failing to pay a K600 debt.
According to information sourced from the victim’s relatives, Mr Wilson Mlaka contacted Mr Alick Chipeya who is a craftsman to make him a knife and he made it at a price of K600.
Speaking to News Watch Reviews, Nkhata Bay Police Relations Officer, Ignatius Esau said on May 19, 2016, Mr Chipeya went to Mr Mlaka’s house to ask for his money. Instead of settling the matter amicably, the two started quarrelling and ended up fighting.
“In course of the fight, Mr Alick Chipeya produced a knife and stabbed Mr Wilson Mlaka in the stomach to the extent of exposing his intestines and he lost a lot of blood”, said Esau.
After the incident, the matter was reported to Nkhata Bay Police and the victim was referred to Nkhata Bay District Hospital where he has been admitted receiving treatment.
Mr Alick Chipeya has been arrested and once investigations have been concluded, he will appear before court to answer a charge of Unlawful Wounding which is contrary to section 241A of the penal code.
The suspect and the victim both hails from Kachipapa village in the area of Traditional Authority Mankhambira in the district.
