Two people have died while scores escaped with minor injuries after the minbus they were travelling in was involved in a fatal road accident.
According to Nkhata Bay Police Publist Ignatius Esau who spoke to News Watch Reviews said the accident happened on Sunday, October 09, 2016 at Kawalazi turn off in Nkhata Bay district.
“The minibus with Registration number BR 2205 was being driven by Mr Owen George Chaima from Nkhata Bay going to Mzuzu and had 16 passengers on board. Upon arriving at a place near Kawalazi turn-off, he was trying to overtake another motor vehicle which was going to the same direction. After observing that there was little space to pass through, he decided to reverse but he lost control of the vehicle and went to the extreme nearside verge where the said minibus overturned upside down”, said Esau.
Following the impact, the driver and one female passenger identified Mable Ngwira 50 years of Chiole village under Traditional Authority Fukamalaza in the district died on the spot.
News Watch Reviews understands that Mrs Mable Ngwira was a teacher Chihame Community Day Secondary School.
Meanwhile, Nkhata Bay police are still trying to find full particulars of the other deceased person, Mr George Chaima.
