An epleptic man, Anderson Chijuwa drowned in Lake Malawi after he was attacked by the said disease whilst swimming.
In an interview with News Watch Reviews Nkhata Bay Police Publist Ignatius Esau said the father to the deceased Mr Morris Chijuwa reported that on September 27, 2016, the deceased went to Chikowa fishing camp along the shores of Lake Malawi to swim.
“It was at this place where the deceased got attacked by the eplepsy and later drowned. The dead body was discovered by people who were also swimming near the said fishing camp who later reported the matter to his parents”, said Esau.
Police together with medical personnel visited the scene of the incident and postmortem that was conducted singled out suffocation as the root cause of the deceased’s death.
The deceased hailed from Kachipapa villge under Traditional Authourity Mankhambira in Nkhata Bay district.
Meanwhile, police in the district are advising parents and guardians whose children have eplepsy to see to it that they are not allowed to go alone to rivers, lakes, wells or any other water body where the likelihood of drowning might occur.
