A Christian was knifed to death after a Sunday prayer near a church in northern Bangladesh in an attack claimed by Islamic State.
The 65-year-old , Sunil Gomez was murdered by unidentified attackers in the village of Bonpara.
“Sunil Gomez was hacked to death at his grocery store near a church at Bonpara village” Said Saficik Issmal, deputy police chief of Natire district.
Isis claimed to be responsible for the murder through its Amaq news agency, according to the site monitoring group, saying it was “part of a series of operation” in Bangladesh.
The killing came hours after the wife of senior anti-terrorism officer was murdered in the Southern city of Chittagony by suspected members of a banned local extremist group.
Bangladesh is facing a number of murders of secular and liberal activists and religious minorities that have left more than 40 peopke dead in three years.
An investigating officer, inspector Addur Razzak, said the motive for the latest killing is unclear but it is similar to those of Hindus and members of other religious minirities in recent months.
