A fatal road accident involving a motor vehicle with registration number NA 4430 Scania bus, belonging to Premier Bus Services claimed seven innocent souls on Wednesday night.
The bus was driven by Mr Richard Nyirenda, 40, of Katolola village in the area of Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga district and the accident occurred on August 10, 2016 at around 2330hrs at Mlangeni along Ntcheu-Dedza m1 road.
According to reports emerging from Ntcheu, the driver was driving from Ntcheu heading to Dedza with over 60 passengers on board.
On arrival at Mlangeni, due to fatigue and overspeeding, he lost control then the bus swerved to extreme nearside dirt verge where it crashed. Due to the impact, four unknown females, two unknown male and a 2 year young girl died on spot due to head injuries and multiple fractures respectively.
Some passengers who sustained serious injuries include; Mr Chrispin Mzumara,aged 57, of Mwangolera village in the area of Traditional Authourity Kyungu in Karonga district and Miss Gladys Kazembe,22, of Muhasuwa village in the area of Ttraditional Authourity Mpama in Chiradzulu district. These serously injured passengers were rushed to Kamuzu Central Hospital for further treatment.
The rest have escaped with minor injuries and have been admitted to Ntcheu district hospital.
