The First Lady showed the young girls in Malawi that age is just a number but you can do anything if you put your mind on it. Her visit to the Queens camp indicated that their are people who supports you and wishes you to succeed in what you are doing.
Malawian first lady, Her Excellency Dr. Gertrude Mutharika on Friday showed her netball skills when she paid a surprise visit to the Malawi National Netball Team, the Queens, who are training at the Blantyre Youth Center.
The Queens, who are in the top six in the world netball rankings are in the camp preparing for Africa Netball Championship which will be hosted in Uganda from 24 to 30 June.
While at the camp, she said that she wanted to surprise the Queens and give them morale ahead of their competition.
“As their Patron I wanted to give them some morale and to let them know that they make us proud. I encourage them to work and do the nation proud and I know they will. We are all behind them,” said Madam Mutharika.
The Queens’ coach, Griffin Saenda applauded the first lady for sparing her time and pay them a surprise visit.
“Her surprise visit made us feel honoured. It’s the first time for this to happen and we are very grateful to the First Lady. It just shows how much she cares and how much she appreciates the girls,” Saenda said.
The First Lady trained with the team as a goal shooter and later on presented to the 23 players and officials that are in camp some hampers.
