Gaba Shines As Malawi Beat Angola 3-0 In COSAFA Cup Campaign

Three records were made on Sunday in Namibia during the group B Cosafa Cup matches. The first record was made by Gabadinho Mhango for being the first Malawian to score a hat-trick at the COSAFA Cup. The other record was made by Lesotho who registered their first ever biggest win in the COSAFA Cup by beating Mauritius 3-0, while their striker, Thaba-Ntso scored the quickest goal in COSAFA Cup history. He scored his goal just after 34 seconds of the game.

Malawi, popularly known as “The Flames” made a positive start to their COSAFA Cup campaign after smashing Angola 3 nil at the Independence Stadium on Sunday evening.

Malawi is in Namibia where the COSAFA Cup is being hosted.

The Malawi national team took their lead in the 32nd minute through their lethal striker, Gabadinho Mhango who outsmarted the Angolan deffence. The South African based striker came into action again in the 71st minute when he scored his second goal.

The flames kept on mounting pressure on their opponents and their efforts paid off again when Gabadinho scored his last goal through a penalty at the death of the game to complete his hat-trick.

The Malawian prolific striker, Gabadinho Mhango has broken the record of being the first Malawian to score a hat-trick in the Cosafa Castle Cup championship.

The flames has been performing poorly in recent games and they have been knocked out from 2017 AFCON cup finals which will be hosted in Gabon. Flames were shown an exit door by their long time rivals, the Warriors of Zimbabwe.

In another game from the the same group, Lesotho defeated Mauritius 3-0 to record their first biggest ever win in the Cosafa Castle Cup.

Lesotho and Malawi are holding the first top position in their group which consists of four teams. The teams in the group are; Angola, Lesotho, Malawi and Mauritius.
