The Malawi Police in the northern city of Malawi, Mzuzu are keeping in custody a 35 year old man, Brino Nanthenga of Nyambalo village, Traditional Authourity Khumba in Phalombe for insulting a woman living with albinism.
Speaking to News Watch Reviews, Mzuzu deputy police public relations officer, Cecilia Mfune said the man insulted her while she was at the market in the city.
“On July 10, 2016, Constance Msiska who is an albino went to Zigwagwa market in the city of Mzuzu to buy oranges, as she was passing by, the suspect started insulting her with a loud voice calling her money. People tried to stop him but he continued by saying the woman represents a lot of money”, said Cecilia.
The woman was angry with the insults from the suspect which she said are putting them in a bad situation in the city.
“This is sad indeed, such sentiments makes us to live in fear in our own country”, she said.
She then reported the matter to the police and the suspect was arrested.
The suspect will appear in court soon to answer the charge of Conduct Likely to Cause Breach of Peace contrary to section 182 of the penal code.
