Police in Nkhata Bay are keeping in custody a 24 year old man Lymon Nkhoma on suspicion that he killed a 70 year old man Gibson Buleya Phiri.
Information made available to News Watch Reviews by Nkhata Bay Police relations officer Ignatius Esau indicates that the deceased’s son got married to the suspect’s ex-wife and this did not please the suspect who for along time had been insulting the deceased.
“The deceased was fed up with the insults and on May 18, 2017 he assaulted the suspect and later in the evening, the suspect mobilised a group of boys who were armed with knives and tree logs and invaded the deceased’s house where they assaulted and stabbed him and later died on spot”, said Esau.
Esau further said the murderer was later apprehended and taken to the police custody.
Postmortem indicated that death was due to severe loss of blood secondary to four deep wounds the deceased had sustained.
The suspect who comes from Dembanthuli villge under Traditional Authority Kabunduli in the distirict will soon appear in court to answer a charge of murder which contravenes section 209 of the country’s penal code.
