It was a day with dismay on Tuesday morning in Zambia as fire gutted down some shops at Lusaka City market.
Zambian Police confirmed that fire started at around 0520 hours from one of the shops where stationery and mobile phones are sold.
On the material day fire fighters team from the Fire Brigade and Zambia Air Force managed to extinguish the fire even though it was too late as other shops were already burnt to ashes.
Investigations in this incident have since been instituted and Police are yet to establish the cause of the fire and quantify the damage caused.
Zambia Police spokesperson Esther Mwaato Katongo has urged members of the public to be calm as Police do their work and police said they will guard the market to avoid thugs from finding a chance to steal some properties at the market.
“We also appeal to anyone who has information that may be helpful in the investigations to report to the nearest Police Station. All citizens should also know that security is a collective responsibility; therefore, any well meaning Zambian or citizen should be security conscious and participate by way of reporting any crime or people that are involved in these clandestine activities”, said Esther Katongo.
