Police in Kasungu on Friday April 22, 2016 burnt about 40 bags of Indian Hemp which were being kept at Kasungu Police Station and  Kasungu First Grade Magistrate Court. The operation took place at Chiwengo dumping site. Present at the operation were police officers, representatives from judiciary, District Commissioner and District Heath Office.

The Indian Hemp burnt on this day belonged to various convicts who were arrested and appeared before court and were found guilty and sentenced to different fines as per the gravity of the offence failure of which were sentenced to serve a jail term. Some of the Indian Hemp belonged to some suspects who just dumped them and run away upon seeing police officers in their vicinity.

What happens is that when cases of Indian Hemp have been completed in court or the suspect has run away leaving the product behind, it comes a time when the Indian Hemp is destroyed by burning. This may be done by the court or police in  the presence of other stakeholders to bear as the witnesses that the product has really been destroyed.IMG-20160423-WA0004
