Malawi Police Rescues A Murder Suspect From Being Killed By Angry Villagers.

Police in Kasungu on Monday morning rushed to Matako village which is under Traditional Authority Lukwa to rescue Gift Chalera, 28 from angry villagers who were baying for his blood for murdering a 88 year old woman identified as Elida Banda of the same village.

Accoding to the Police report made available to News Watch Reviews by Kasungu public relations officer Inspector Edna Mzingwitsa states that during the night of 18 September, 2016 the suspect who is also related to the deceased went to the deceased house with intention to rape the girl who was living in the same house with the deceased.

“The deceased shouted for help which attracted the community members to apprehend the suspect. After realising that the suspect was related to the deceased, it was agreed that the matter should be confronted amongst themselves”, said Edna.

It is alleged that on Monday, September 19, 2016 at around 0600 hours, the deceased went to the house of the suspect in order to resolve the matter.

“When the suspect saw the deceased at his house, he just went inside and came out with metal bar which he used to hit the deceased in the head and she died on the spot”, concluded Inspector Edna.

Meanwhile, Police have arrested Gift Chalera who is now answering the charge of murder. He will appear before court soon when enquiries are completed.

The Police publist further said the suspect has been badly injured by the villagers.

He hails from Matako village in the area of Traditional Authority Lukwa in Kasungu district.
