One of the country’s politicians Proffesor John Chisi has said Malawi is failing to develop because 99% of its politicians do not have the passion to develop their country.
Speaking on an interview Chisi said 99% of politicians nowadays are after to make money not to develop the country.“They are not politicians because they don’t want to serve Malawians but to enrich themselves.
“Most of the politicians joined politics because they had nothing to do in their life to earn money.Thats why they take it very important to develop their pockets than developing their people they represent, ” he said.
He continued to say that he is very disappointed with the behaviour of all current politicians.
“When doing campaigns they get involved in many projects but when they get into power they recieve the constituency and development allowances to develop their areas. where does this money go?” he asked.
Recently, Economists said poor economic policies that the country follows were making tobacco farmers poor since the policies only favour the buyers not the sellers. And this was true. Economist, Kolins Kalua advised government to manage the exchange rate during the tobacco season.
“Whenever the tobacco season starts the Kwacha gains value and as a result Malawian farmers get less money when they exchange dollars they get from their tobacco sales into Kwachas”.Said Kalua the economist.Mr Kalua further suggested that the government should manage the exchange rate during the tobacco season and let it float after the season.
