The Senior Resident Magistrate Court sitting in Mzuzu on Monday Sentenced Alick Muwisa, 22 years, to 14 and 8 years imprisonment with hard labour for the charges of defilement and abduction respectively.
The court heard that Muwisa and the victim’s parents were neighbours at Masasa area in Mzuzu City. In 2015 the 11 year old girl was playing with her friends at night. The convict grabbed her into his house where she was defiled and forced to spent the night there. He gave her a packet of biscuits but she revealed the whole incident to her parents the following morning.
“The matter was reported to Mzuzu Police Station and medical findings on the girl proved penetration took place ,however Muwisa was at large and he was arrested this Month”, said Mzuzu Police deputy spokesperson Cecilia Mfune.
Appearing before court he denied both charges but state prosecutor Sergeant Felix Senzani paraded 5 witnesses who convinced the court that Muwisa committed the offence.
In his judgment, Senior Resident Magistrate Brian Sambo sentenced the convict to 14 years for defilement and 8 years for abduction to run concurrently.
The convict hails from Mgodi Village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Kabunduli in Nkhata Bay District.
