As crackdown on criminals continues in the northern City of Malawi, Mzuzu, the Second Grade Magistrate on August 26, 2016 slapped another criminal to spend 8 years behind bars for robbery with violence contrary to section 301 of the Penal Code.
According to State Prosecutor Misheck Kalawa on 14 April 2016 the convict robbed a tax operator of his motor cycle.
The court heard that on the material day at around 2200 hours the victim was about to leave Mzuzu old town to his home and the convict asked for a lift to Zolozolo, he accepted since both were heading to the same direction.
Upon reaching Mzuzu Technical College, which is outside the city, the man asked the victim to stop and he hit him with a big wood on the head and face, he fell down badly wounded.
The convict thereafter went away with the motorcycle Qinqi model registration number MZ2830 which was worth MK260,000.00.
He reported the matter to the Police and investigations were done which led to the arrest of the convict and recovery of the motorcycle.
In his ruling Second Grade Magistrate Brian Sambo said there was enough evidence that the convict committed the crime although he denied the charge and he sentenced him to 8 years IHL as a lesson to others.
The convict Chikayiko Hawa Nyirenda 20 years hails from Manda Village under Traditional Authority Nkaya in Balaka district.
