A 27 year old woman identified as Eluby Luhanga of Simeon Nyambose village in the area of Tradional Authority Mthwalo in Mzimba district is in Police custody in Mzuzu for purportedly bringing about the demise of her 8 months old boy.
Mzuzu Police Public Relations Officer Martin Bwanali said the suspect told the police she got hitched to her husband, Masuzgo Nyambose, in 2015. She entered the wedlock while six months old pregnant and she told her husband that he is responsible.
“The child was born somewhere in the range of eight months back and was named Jimmy. However, her spouse has been stating he was not the father to Jimmy and such was a wellspring of contention in the family. So to bring peace and obviously to maintain the marriage, she chose to dispense with the life of the kid”, said Martin.
On July 17, this year she gave her kid poison, tomato bug spray.
In the wake of beginning to show poison effect, the suspect’s relations hurried the youngster to Ekwendeni mission health center where he was conceded.
As per the medical report, the youngster died during the wee hours of July 18. The same restorative report conducted by medical personnel at the health centre revealed that demise was due to poisoning.
The suspect will show up in court to answer the charge of murder contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code.
