Malawi Police in Nkhata Bay have launched a manhunt for armed robbers who attempted to steal at Puma Filling Station in the district during the wee hours of Monday morning.
Armed robbers who attacked Nkhata Bay Puma filling station failed to accomplish their intended mission after police in the district intervened in time.
Speaking to News Watch Reviews, Nkhata Bay police relations officer, Ignatius Esau said that on the material day at around 0030hrs, three unknown criminals who were armed with machetes and breaking implements attacked the watchman who was on duty and tied him with ropes.
“We received a report that there is an attempted robbery at the filling station. The police were immediately deployed to intervene, but no one was arrested”, said Esau.
The officer further said that after the watchman was tied, the robbers then cut the office roof and went inside where they attempted to break the cash chest but they failed.
News Watch reviews understands that there are two watchmen at the filling station. However, when this was happening, the other watchman was away and when he came back, he was also attacked but he managed to escape and informed the police who visited the crime scene in time.
The robbers sensed danger after seeing that the other watchman had run away, then they left the scene leaving behind craw-bars, cutters, machetes, hacksaw and screwdrivers.
Malawi police have started investigations to trace the culprits.
