Police in Nkhata Bay are keeping in custody a 32 year old man identified as Frank Kaunda for being found in possession of 30 cobs of cannabis sativa popularly known as “chamba”, which still remains an illegal drug in the country.
According to Nkhata Bay police publist, Sergeant Ignatius Esau, Kaunda was arrested on the 19th of April this year during a general observation exercise the CID section conducted around 17:30hours around Nkhata Bay trading centre.
In course of their observation, they met Kaunda carrying a black jumbo on his shoulder. “The officers became suspicious with his moves since the suspect in question is a reputable dealer in cannabis sativa in the district” said Esau.
The suspect was stopped and when a search was made in the plastic paper, it was found that it contained 30 cobs of cannabis sativa, he was arrested and seizure of the said stuff was made immediately.
The suspect is expected to appear before court soon to answer charges of being found in possession of cannabis sativa which is contrary to regulation 4A as read with section 19 sub-section 1 of Dangerous Drugs Act.
