By Nicole Hensley: A man suspected of slaying four children including two of his own and critically wounding their mother, his wife, near Detroit, Mich., called police to turn himself in, and waited on the porch as cops arrived, officials said.
The suspected killer called authorities at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, from a home in Dearborn Heights.
The victims were 4, 6, 16 and 19 years old, Dearborn Heights Mayor Dan Paletko said.
The man allegedly killed the two youngest children by carbon monoxide poisoning running his vehicle in the home’s garage. He later placed their dead bodies in their beds.
The bodies were still warm when first responders found them, Paletko said.
“It was too late,” the crestfallen mayor said.
The older children were found shot to death in the basement, near their critically-wounded mother, Paletko said. The woman was later rushed to a hospital.
“I can’t fathom under any circumstances how a parent could do what was done to the family,” Paletko said.
