A 27 year old man identified by the Police as Daniel Issa of Ngwena Village in the area of Traditional Authority Ndindi District Salima suddenly died after a train run over him.
Speaking to News Watch Reviews, Salima Police public relations officer Gift Chitowe said on the day of the incident the deceased was drunk and he slept on the railway line.
“During the early hours of November 24 this year, the deceased left drinking a spree on his way back home and upon arriving at Saudi Village, Chipoka, he decided to sleep on a railway line thinking he was already in his house due to over drinking”, he said.
Gift further said due to his drunk mood, he couldn’t hear the sound of the on-coming train hence he was crushed to death.
The body of the deceased was taken to Salima District Hospital where postmortem was conducted and revealed that death was due to loss of blood as a result of severe injuries.
Meanwhile, Malawi Police Service is urging members of the general public to behave responsibly and desist from such kinds of behaviour as one way to avoid such incidents from happening.
