The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) has dismissed reports hovering on Social Media that it is recruiting new soldiers.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, the spokesperson for Malawi Defence Force, Paul Chiphwanya refuted that they have released a vacancy for the post.
“Our Malawi Defence Force Intelligence Unit (MDFIU) will investigate the issue and trace the source of the false rumours. We have not released such a statement. Posts like these will mislead the citizens of Malawi therefore we have to put to an end such actions”, said Chiphwanya.
He added, “if someone has been found being the source and mastermind of such misleading statements, he or she will face the law”.
The post which has been making rounds on Social Media especially on Whatsapp, is calling upon suitable Malawians to undergo a 6 months training and upon successifully completion they will be recruited as soldiers by the Ministry of Defence.
“We are inviting applications from suitable Malawians to undergo a six months training and upon a successful completion, you will be recruited as soldiers by the Ministry of Defence.”, read part of the post.
According to the post, qualifications for the job should be Malawian citizens, male or female aged between 18 and 26 and they should be single. They should also be holders of the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) and the height should be 1.8m for females and 2m for males.
The Spokesperson further called upon Malawians to desist from such posts as that his office is aware that many people wants to join the security force in the country and once everything is sorted, Malawians will be told through well-known media houses in the country.
