A 42 year old man, Thomas Mayini is in Mzuzu Police custody for defiling his13 year old step daughter, Police have confirmed.
According to Mzuzu Police deputy relations officer Cecilia Mfune, said the victim’s mother who stays in Eferanja near Ekwendeni got married to the suspect in 2009 when she already had two daughters.
“The victim being her first born by then was in primary school. Last year the victim had been telling her mother that she wanted to go to the Police but she didn’t take it seriously since the girl never disclosed anything”, said Cecilia.
Cecilia further demonstrated that on September 5, 2016, the girl quarrelled with her step father and later on she went to school to get a transfer letter.
“While at school, she was asked by the head teacher the reason behind her transfer request and she revealed that her step father has been sleeping with her since she was young and she wanted to go and live with her grandparents in Kasungu”, she said.
The matter was reported to Ekwendeni Police Unit and medical report proved that the girl had indeed been defiled.
The suspect was arrested and he admitted the charge by signing though he said he only did it twice.
Meanwhile he has been remanded in police custody awaiting his trial in court.
The suspect hails from Chihama village under Traditional Authority (TA) Nyambi in Mangochi district.
