Real Madrid Crowned 2016 UEFA Champions

Real Madrid who missed out on two trophies in their country, Spain, the Kings Cup and the LA Liga trophies, were crowned the 2016 European champions after beating their city rivals Athletico  Madrid 6-4 in Italy on Saturday.

It was the second time Athletico Madrid have lost to Real Madrid in Champions league final as it happened two years ago.


This is the 11th UEFA league tittle for the Bernabeu club and the first for Zinedine Zidane as a coach at the club.
The Galacticos were the first to shake the ooenents net after Sergio Ramos lobbed home a flicker from Toni Kroos in the 15 minute of the game.

The two teams went into the break with Real Madrid leading with a single goal. In the second half, Athletics Madrid started the game on a high note and their efforts paid dividends when Pepe brought down Fernando Torres in the box for a penalty. But Antonio Griezmann missed his penalty after the ball hit underside of the bar.

It did not take too long for Athletico Madrid to equalise. Yannick Carrasco scored the equaliser after running into a cross from Juanfran in the 79th minute of the game.

The two teams finished a goal apiece during the first 90 minutes after Yannick Carrasco cancelled out Sergio Ramos’ opener.

This equaliser took the two teams into extra time which both teams failed to score.

During the penalty shootout, Juanfran missed his spot and Christian Rinaldo scored the last spot kick for Real Madrid which was also a decider on the day.

Real Madrid won 5-3 on penalties and 6-4 on aggregate.
