Zimbabwe’s Parliamentary and mines portfolio committee chairperson Daniel Shumba ramps up pressure on Mugabe’s administration to open up the diamonds and gems fields to independent players before Christmas this year.
The call comes barely few hours after the government confirmed the $5.4 million buyout of a Russian diamond exploration company from the Zimbabwe’s eastern diamond fields . Sources who spoke under anonymity said the government has kicked out seven privately owned mining companies due to lack of transparency.
The recent development comes on the heels of recent public bragging by Mines minister Walter Chidakwa while on a business trip in Australia. Speaking to reporters in Kimberly Ausie, Chidakwa bragged that Zimbabwe’s diamond consolidated company was poised for greater things like never seen before this year.
