By Rivalani Myambo: A Limpopo doctor who had been on the run for two weeks after his girlfriend was found murdered in his hospital residence has handed himself in to the police.
Ndivhuwo Mudau, 25, appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on October 14 and was denied bail.
Mudau had been on the run since October 2, after his girlfriend Refilwe Makoma Masinamela, 25, from Maapana Village near Tzaneen, was found dead in his residence at Tshilidzini Hospital in Thohoyandou. Masinamela had been stabbed numerous times.
“The doctor handed himself over to the police on Friday and appeared for his bail application,” said Limpopo police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Maotshe Ngoepe.
Mudau would remain in custody until his next court appearance on November 7.
At the time of her death, Masinamela was a third-year teaching student at the University of Venda.
Takalani Dzanga, head of communications at the University of Venda, said the university was shocked at the murder of Masinamela and wants justice to prevail.
“We would like to convey our sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the family of the student and the University of Venda student community. We also want to see justice prevail because we expected a bright future [for Masinamela],” he said.
Classmate Tlangelani Chauke described Masinamela as a bright student who always helped other students and was always kind.
“We are so saddened by the passing of our classmate. She was intelligent and a very hard worker at the same time.”
