The father of a six-month-old baby is wanted for questioning after the infant’s tiny body was found dead in the bedroom of his parents’ panorama view home on Saturday, Gauteng police said on Sunday.
The baby’s mother arrived home from work at 19:20 after leaving him in the care of his father that morning” police spokesperson Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said.
“When she asked her husband where the child was, he told her that he was sleeping in the bedroom. It is alleged that when she went to check on the baby, she found the child wrapped in a blanket and not breathing.” Makhubela said.
Paramedics were called and they certified the child died.
The infant was found to have sustained head injuries and burn wounds.
The baby’s father was last seen by the woman just before she went to check on the baby.
“When she went to check on the baby, the man left in the woman’s car without saying where he was going. And he never came back home,” Makhubela said.
The police have appealed to the father to return home in order to assist them in their investigation.
