A South African teen has died in Mauritius, allegedly after she was slapped.
The Mauritian newspaper L’Express reported that Mundolene Vosloo, 17, from Springs on the East Rand, was on holiday on the island with her father, stepmother and two brothers.
According to Huisgenoot.com, she collapsed on Wednesday evening in the hotel they family were staying. A local doctor pronounced her dead on the scene.
She apparently died of a brain hemorrhage.
The exact circumstances leading to her death is still unclear, but her stepmother, Marietjie Vosloo allegedly slapped her during an argument.
According to The Mauritian, the fight happened in front of Mundolene’s brother.
A Mauritian police spokesperson confirmed her death to Huisgenoot and said Marietjie was arrested and, according to L’express, she appeared in court on Thursday.
She was charged with culpable homicide.
Mundolene was in Hugenote High School in Springs.
