A 28 year old South African woman has been arrested in KwaZulu Natal for allegedly trying to sell a child living with albinism to a traditonal doctor.
Police in the province said the four year old child went missing on June 28, 2016 while playing with friends outside the church tent at his home in uMkhobose Reserve.
“After the boy went missing, members of the Empangeni Family Violence (EFV), Sexual Offences Unit (SOU) and the Child Protection Unit (CPU) started searching for the child in the area but they couldn’t find him”, said Colonel Zwane, KZN police spokesperson.
KwaZulu -Natal police conducted their investigations and discovered that the 28 year old woman was behind the whole process of selling the four year old albino child, Maneliswa Ntombera.
“We followed up information about a woman who was allegedly arranging to sell this albino child for R100 000 to a traditional healer at Emanguzi”, said Zwane.
The police spokesperson further said the child has not yet been found and investigations are still underway to know the whereabouts of the child.
The suspect was arrested after thorough investigations by the police and she appeared in the Ubombo Magistrate’s Court and her bail application will be done on July 12, 2016.
