Police in Kasungu are keeping in custody Edward Jekapu, 23 and Phillip Katundu, 19 for allegedly selling fox meat to Lemison Mwale, 46 under the pretext that it was duiker’s meat.
In an interview with News Watch Reviews, Kasungu Police spokesperson Harry Namwaza said on Sunday, November 13, 2016, the two suspects approached Mwale saying that they were selling duiker’s meat.
“Believing what Jekapu and Katundu were saying, Mwale bought the alleged duiker’s meat and ate it with his family”, said Harry.
News Watch Reviews understands that the following day, Mwale got shocked when some well wishers told him that the meat he had bought the previous day was not of the duiker but that of a fox.
“Realising the danger the fox meat may cause to their bodies, Mwale and his family rushed to the Veterinary Officer who referred them Kasungu District Hospital for treatment and later reported the matter to the Police who inturn arrested them”, further affirmed Harry.
Meanwhile, Jekapu and Katundu have been charged with the offence of Selling of Noxious Food which is contrary to Section 194 of the Penal Code.
If found guilty, the offence attract maximum sentence of 7 years. The two will appear before court to answer the charge leveled against them.
Both suspects hail from Chinyanga village under Traditional Authority Kapelula in Kasungu district.
