Two suspects identified as Isaac Chirwa and Simon Banda both of Jumbo village in the area of Sub Chief Fukamalaza in Nkhata Bay are on the run after setting ablaze a house of Mr Thomas Mwale, 35, of the same village over allegations of witchcraft.
Confirming the development to this publication, Nkhata Bay Police spokesperson Ignatius Esau said that Mr Mwale and the suspects had a quarrell at the beer joint over issues of witchcraft.
“They had a quarel at the beer joint, people intervened but the complainant, Mr Mwale was warned to leave the village failing to do so he will be forced to leave the village”, said Esau.
It is during the night of 07-08 August this year at around 2330hrs when the two suspects went to the house of the complainant and set ablaze his house.
Community members came to help the victim to extinguish the fire, but some of his properties were burnt to ashes together with cash amounting to MK374, 040.00.
According to the police, the total value of damaged property is estimated at MK453, 040.00.
Both suspects are still at large and Nkhata Bay police have launched a manhunt to trace the culprits and bring them to book.
