It was a tough day for a 32 year old woman identified as Rute Makuluni who tried to trick Police officers at Mukwiya road block but ended up behind bars at Nkhata Bay police station after she was found possessing loose indian hemp weighing 19.5kgs.
In an interview with News Watch Reviews, Nkhata Bay police publist Ignatius Esau said during the wee hours of August 1, 2017, police officers who were manning the afore -mentioned roadblock came across two expand bags loaded with the said stuff from a Toyota hiace minbus registration number KK 1521 which was on its way to Mzuzu from Dwangwa direction.
“While doing their usual duties, police came across the said luggages. They questioned the passengers and they all pointed fingers at Makuluni as the owner who later accepted that the two expand bags belonged her”, said Esau.
Makuluni was immediately arrested and the said stuff was confiscated pending court appearance where she is expected to answer a charge of being found in possession of cannabis sativa which contravenes regulation 4(a) as read with section 19 of Dangerous Drugs Act.
The suspect hails from Bula village in the area of Traditional Authority Kwataine in Ntcheu district.
