The fight against criminals in Malawi rages on as Police are keeping on their pace to eradicate criminal activities in the country.
This follows the arrest of a 37 year old man identified as Elifala Dzimbiri for murdering an elderly woman on May 17, 2017 at kaomba richero village under Traditional Authority Chimutu in Lilongwe.
According to Kanengo Police publist Salome Zgambo chibwana said the deceased, Agness Mkwanda was being accused of practising witchcraft because of her elderly age.
“On May 16, 2017 a certain child called her a witch which angered her and she ended up beating the child”.
“The child went to his father Mr Elifala Dzimbiri and reported the incident. This did not go well with the suspect who went to the old woman’s house and started beating her up using sticks and stepped her on the chest several times”, said Salome.
The deceased died upon arrival at the health facility in the City.
Postmortem done at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) showed that death was due to severe head injuries and chest injuries as the deceased was found with multiple rib fractures.
The deceased and the suspect both hails from Kaombalichero village under Traditional Authority Chimutu in Lilongwe district.
