The 2.7 billion US dollars sugarcane plantation in Shang’ombo District has officially been commissioned.
Shangombo District Commissioner Captain Lawrence Nyambe says the long awaited sugarcane plantation will improve the economic situation in Shangombo and Western province as a whole.
Speaking during the launch Captain Nyambe said government will continue providing an enabling environment for private sector development for the benefit of the Zambian people.
The 30,000 hectares plantation is being spearheaded by the Programmes Against Discrimination in Communities -PADIC.
PADIC Executive Director Sitali Sitali said the 30 years project has so far created about 500 jobs and will provide out grower schemes to the local people.
Mr. Sitali said this in a speech read for him by Agriculture Manager Griffiths Tumbama.
