COACH Mike “Weaver” Zulu has declared Catherine Phiri ready for the World Boxing Council bantamweight defence title fight against South African Gabisile Tshabalala on August 27 at Government Complex in Lusaka.
Zulu said all the boxers including the WBC champion Catherine are prepared for their opponents next month.
He said the boxers had been training hard and their levels of confidence were impressive.
He said Catherine’s level of commitment to training was inspiring and there was no doubt that the title will remain in Zambia.
“Catherine has been put on a special training programme and is doing well. She and the rest of the boxers are ready for August 27. The target is to win all the fights that day and I feel the boxers are adequately equipped,” he said.
Zulu said Tshabalala will be given the respect she deserved but will definitely have a tough time in the ring against the defending champion.
“We will not underrate Tshabalala because she is also preparing for the fight. But she will not have it easy with the champ; Catherine is focused and not giving up on the belt soon,” he said.
WBC silver champion Charles Manyuchi will fight Tanzanian Ibrahim Class in a non-title supporting bout as a warm up ahead of the defence title fight against France’s Damien Martin on September 30 in Zimbabwe.
