AGRICULTURE minister Given Lubinda has encouraged civil servants in the country to embrace agriculture as a way of creating extra wealth.
Mr. Lubinda emphasised that there was need for civil servants to enhance their knowledge and capacity in farming.
He urged them not to be too reliant on their monthly salary, but also endeavour to look for other sources of income such as agriculture to sustain their lives and families.
“The vision of Government is to transfer knowledge and capacity to all of us to look beyond our comfort zone and the immediate activities that occupy our minds and time and see that we can get involved in agricultural activities that can change the fortunes of our lives and families,” Mr. Lubinda said.
He told the Daily Nation in an interview that agriculture remained the only productive venture civil servants were allowed to engage in without compromising the civil service rules.
He encouraged them to participate in agriculture in order to augment their monthly income and contribute to social and economic development of the country.
“Venturing in agriculture will not only help the civil servants but also the country at large in terms of social and economic development. In fact, it’s the only venture that a civil servant can engage in without compromising their job,” he said.
