Copperbelt PF acting provincial secretary Binwell Mpundu said it was worrying to note that the UPND had ignored the electoral guidelines as stipulated by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) for political parties participating in this year’s general polls to campaign freely without taking part in violent activities.
Mr Mpundu said he was shocked to see the UPND embrace violence after the two parties had a stakeholders’ meeting earlier on the need to campaign peacefully.
He accused the UPND of desperation because the party was out of contention in the general elections.
Mr Mpundu said the UPND wanted to cause chaos in the country by disturbing the peaceful campaigns that the PF had embarked on since campaigns started.
He said the UPND should desist from attacking innocent PF members who belong to a peaceful political party.
“The Copperbelt is a stronghold of the PF and the UPND is experiencing the last kicks of a dying horse which badly needs to come into power but they have nothing to offer to the electorate. They have resorted to violence because this is what they know best ever since the party was established,” Mr Mpundu said.
Mr Mpundu said the PF would continue campaigning in a peaceful way because the party on the Copperbelt had listened to the wise words of President Edgar Lungu who had told every PF member in the country to conduct free and fair campaigns for the betterment of all.
Efforts to get a comment from UPND Copperbelt spokesperson Kennedy Kalunga proved futile has his phone was unreachable.
