There was a commotion and fighting at the United Party for National Development (UPND) Chavuma rally addressed by its leader Hakainde Hichilema after two independent candidates Fredrick Fwoloshi and Grace Njampau were attacked by party cadres.
Apparently, the two independent candidates had mobilised more supporters to welcome the UPND leader and were first to be greeted by Mr Hichilema and his entourage.
The two independent candidates were on hand to receive the UPND leader and joined him (HH) together with other senior party officials at the podium.
This, however, infuriated other supporters led by UPND
parliamentary candidate Victor Lumai who decided to teach the independents a lesson.
Mr Lumai reportedly jumped onto the stage and started pulling Mr Fwoloshi and Ms Njapau away from the podium. In the process, Ms Njapau sustained a cut on her forehead while Mr Fwoloshi started bleeding from the mouth.
And after being forcibly removed from the stage, the two victims also commanded their supporters to leave the grounds.
All this happened in full view of Mr Hichilema who watched helplessly.
This happened despite the fact that they had endorsed the candidature of Mr Hichilema for the August 11 elections.
Addressing the meeting later, Mr Hichilema promised the people of Chavuma that he would improve the feeder roads so that farmers could have easy access to markets.
Mr Hichilema also promised the people in the area to upgrade the Chitokoloki road to bituminous standard which he said was in a deplorable state.
