By Bright Chikele:
It is ironic that UPND cadres can defy Police orders and then their president Hakainde Hichilema can start calling on the Republican President Edgar Lungu to stop political violence. HH without shame lied to the nation in a recording at the Police and on Muvi TV that three (3) people died in the Friday violence. Who are those three people Mr. Hichilema or could it be that three cadres were framed to die on that particular day?
Mr Hichilema has over the months; since he started his premature campaigns, specialized in playing the victim in wrong doing and a hero of solution in misfortunes afflicting Zambians.
The events of Friday clearly bring out Mr Hichilema’s calculated schemes. He threw his cadres in harm’s way and if he does not know the law, we’ll show it to him. If his cadres breach the peace and institutions of governance act, then Mr Hichilema cries persecution.
Since the UPND defied Police orders to cancel the Chawama rally, no word has come from Mr Hichilema to condemn the cadres who unlawfully attempted to march to the venue.
Mr Hichilema wants the public, the church and international community to believe that his cadres were right to fight the police and the Police were wrong to stop the illegal procession.
While loss of life is regrettable, defying lawful orders has dire consequences. As a matter of fact, the UPND does not care about the late Mapenzi Chibulo, a victim of HH’s failure to provide leadership to his cadres. To confirm that they do not care about Mapenzi, the UPND spokesperson Mr. Charles Kakoma descended to the lowest levels of political immorality when he downplayed the incidence of violence by the UPND cadres. In his own words, Kakoma says “There is no violence in Lusaka, just a small fracas that happened yesterday (Friday).” Surely can Kakoma call an incident of such magnitude in which a life was lost as “small fracas?” UPND does not care about Mapenzi and all they want to do is use her untimely death to whip people’s emotions. To this day the UPND has not offered any statement to the family of the late Hon Request Muntanga whose untimely death HH’s leadership cannot distance itself from. To them it does not matter that a political giant such as Muntanga has died arising from a stroke he suffered after he was duped of a nomination he rightfully deserved! They want to use Mapenzi’s death, due to the circumstances under which she died, to win an election. What immorality is this?
The UPND leader wants to portray President Edgar Lungu as a weakling and a man without governance skills. In order to do this, he is ready to sponsor chaos and if…if he went into State House, withdraw the sponsorship of chaos and then Zambia will be fooled into believing, “He is Mr Fix it”.
Mr Hichilema can do anything to go to State House because he has no choice; When he loses this year’s election, he is dead and buried. He has invited so many wolves and when he loses, they are ready to pounce.
The law protecting the Police is clear and here it is:
CHAPTER IX UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLIES, RIOTS AND OTHER OFFENCES AGAINST PUBLIC TRANQUILITY 74.
(1) When three or more persons assemble with intent to commit an offence, or being assembled with intent to carry out some common purpose, conduct themselves in such a manner as to cause persons in the neighbourhood reasonably to fear that the person so assembled will commit a breach of the peace, or will by such assembly needlessly and without any reasonable occasion provoke other persons to commit a breach of the peace, they are an unlawful assembly.
It is immaterial that the original assembling wa s lawful if, being assembled, they conduct themselves with a common purpose in such a manner as aforesaid.
(2) When an unlawful assembly has begun to execute a common purpose by a breach of the peace and to the terror of the public, the assembly is called a riot.
